Frequently asked questions
Is Blackcube a headless CMS?
Yes. Blackcube provides the data layer, the rendering system and a GraphQL API. You keep control over templates and the front. The back-office handles editing, the public site stays in your hands.
Do I need to be a developer to use Blackcube?
To build a site with Blackcube, yes — you need to code in PHP. To populate an existing Blackcube site via the back-office, no — the interface is designed for contributors without a technical background.
What's the difference with other CMSs?
Blackcube provides structured content and the routing system, you code the rest. If you want to embed a CMS in an application without bending your code, Blackcube has you covered.
What's the difference with a SaaS CMS?
SaaS CMSs host your data on their side. Blackcube runs on your server, your data stays with you. No API call quota, no monthly subscription, no risk of a third-party service shutting down tomorrow.
Is Blackcube actively maintained?
Yes. The project is actively maintained by Blackcube. Packages are on Packagist and GitHub.
What license?
BSD-3-Clause. You can embed Blackcube in a proprietary project, modify it, redistribute it. No viral clause, no obligation to publish your business code.
Which PHP framework is supported?
Whichever you want: either your framework is PSR-compatible and it's native, or it isn't and you just build the bridge that suits you. And of course, we welcome any MR.
